(Gift)Wrapping Your Home

Today, December 2nd, I wrapped my first Christmas gift. It wasn't planned; I'm not a list-maker, early-shopper, get-it-all-in-by-Thanksgiving kind of person. Really, I feel that Christmas morning will be a success if I get the presents wrapped and under the tree before everyone gets up that morning! But there is one kind of wrapping that I can enjoy all year round: wallpapering. After Christmas, I get to spend the rest of the 334 or so days a year dreaming up the possibilities for clients (and myself) and that is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I thought I would share some of our current favorites at Source Interior Designs so that everyone can dream of how to completely re-imagine a space using a single design element.

This picture, from a beautiful article regarding how to use color in the home, really struck me. In a lot of our installations, we often use Fine Paints of Europe to get the true lustre and shine that some spaces really need. The combination of the lacquered cabinet with this bold floral wallpaper really makes this small space pop and offers a unique opportunity to do something really different in your home that you would not necessarily do throughout the house. At Source Interior Designs, we have so many different options when it comes to bold prints like this; my mind is already boggled with the possibilities.

This combination is a classic, but never goes out of style. I can't count home many times I have installed grasscloth not only in clients homes, but also in my own. The beauty about grasscloth is that the wallpaper industry has made strides in this regard. Grasscloth now comes in such elegant and interesting colors and textures- it's certainly not your Grandmother's grasscloth anymore! I have recently installed a similar one in my house in New Orleans (a before picture) and I absolutely love it. This simple textile can be used in so many different installations and will always add texture and depth to any room.

Farrow & Ball is one of our go-tos for all things paint and wallpaper related. Their collections of paint really set the standard for for quality and the wallpapers are always so innovative and surprising. With their latest "Baroque" collection, they did not disappoint. This is one of my favorites from this collection, seen here in what looks like an foyer. Small spaces like this (and from the first photo) are perfect to go bold. With a foyer, installing a paper like this really sets the design tone from the beginning and leaves your guests wondering what other surprises you have waiting behind the doors in your beautiful home...

Happy (wallpaper) hunting, everyone!

Until next time,

Evie Clinton
